Gothic Interior Design
Gothic interior design refers to the decorating style used in castles of long ago. The recent trend toward
painting walls black is representative of this style. You don’t have to go totally black when decorating Gothic style because dark colors
in general fit the style such as dark reds, purples. You could even have white walls and black accents such as window treatments, lamps, or
other accessories.
The focus in decorating with a Gothic interior design style is the use of fabric. Every kind of fabric
works and in all patterns. Use the fabrics as drapery, but not in the usual fashion. In the Gothic style, fabric is hung everywhere – from
ceilings, as wall decorations and of course table coverings. Hanging the fabric from the ceiling so that it covers the window and folds on
the floor is a good example of it can be used for draperies. Coverings on the sofa in matching or contrasting patterns and stuffed pillows
also help bring out the Gothic style.
Use flowers to decorate any room when you are using Gothic interior design. These flowers can be real,
artificial or dried. Hang them from the ceiling or place them on pieces of furniture so that they provide life and color to balance out the
dark colors. They can even be wrapped around door frames or bed frames. Candles are also a central point in using this style,
representative of the fact that in the olden days there was no electricity. Using many candles adds to the Gothic ambiance of your
home.
